The cleaning of tough black crust can leave permanent damage on the underlying stone work if not conducted with appropriately studied techniques. We at CREAID study the nature of the crust and devise appropriate chemical or mechanical removal methods which allow us to remove all the damaging crust without compromising the underlying fragile stonework.
